You love running. It’s one of your favorite past times. If you’re stressed out from a long day at work, you go for a run to relax. If you’re tired, a run will give you energy. Even Wear:

Tread loss is concentrated at the outside of the shoe. In extreme cases, there will be holes in the upper where the runner’s foot has broken through.

High, rigid arches that restrict the foot’s inward roll are a common cause of supination. Landing on the outside of the foot puts a lot of pressure on the leg, so these runners tend to be candidates for stress fractures. They should look for well-cushioned running shoes, that absorb some of the pounding, and they should avoid stability shoes.

Heel and Forefoot Wear:

Significant wear in the heel and the ball of the foot extending to the big toe.

New Shoe Tip: Runners who roll their feet too far inward as they land, commonly show this wear pattern. They often have flat arches and a more flexible foot, so it rotates farther inward on the ground. Too much rotation at the hip or knee can also cause this. Running shoes that provide a lot of arch support can help runners limit the inward roll and keep their stride in line. Since they break down soles more quickly than other runners with the extra rotation on the ground, these runners should wear heavier shoes with more durable rubber outsoles.

Heel Wear:

Heel worn down to the midsole, with some slight wear around the ball of the foot.


New Shoe Tip: This wear pattern occurs with runners who overstride, meaning that they run with their feet too far in front of their body. Most of an overstrider’s foot rotation happens in the air, which puts the heel in sole position to absorb the force at impact. Overstriders should look for running shoes that offer a lot of protection, since they are more durable and have extra cushioning to take some of the shock out of landing. They should also keep an eye on the heels of their shoes and be sure to replace any pair when the tread on the outside wears smooth.

Shoe Selection Secrets For The Die-Hard Track Athlete

The proper shoes are important in all sports, but especially in track and field. If your sport is a track and field event, it’s imperative that you wear the right shoe. They’re the most critical piece of equipment you can buy.
Do like the pros do and spend some time finding the most appropriate shoe for your feet. Don’t let yourself be overly influenced by how good the shoes look; it’s more important that they’re right for your particular track event and your feet. Shoes that seem more fashionable are rarely the best choice, so this should be well down on your list of reasons to buy a pair of shoes.

This doesn’t mean that an unattractive shoe is automatically the best choice, however. Now that you know how important it is to choose the right shoe you also need to know what to look for. Bear in mind that shoes used on a track are completely different from shoes used for road or trail running. A track is a nice flat surface without obstacles (unless you’re running hurdles), while running anywhere else will cause you to deal with uneven grounds, slick surfaces, and objects to get over or around.

The wrong shoes, shoes not appropriate for your sport, or shoes that don’t fit properly will put you at risk for injury. Running shoes must be appropriate for the surface you’ll be running on, or you’ll be wasting your money.

The first thing you need to know before deciding on a new track shoe is which way your feet roll when they touch the ground. The may roll toward the outside or inside of your foot; you can determine which describes your running style by examining the soles of the shoes you’re currently wearing. Under-pronating is caused by wearing out on the outside first; over-pronating, obviously, causes more wear on the inside of the shoe. If you can’t tell if you’re an under- or over-pronator from the wear on your current shoes, have someone who runs with you watch your feet as you run. Ask them to run behind you so they can tell how your feet hit the ground. You have to know what kind of pronator you are before you can begin looking for new track shoes.

Once you’ve determined what type of pronator you are you’ll be on the right track for finding the proper running shoe. If your shoes are worn evenly across the soles, you’re a neutral pronator and you need a well-balanced, flexible shoe. A well-cushioned shoe is necessary for an under-pronator, while a heavy shoe will give needed stability to a moderate over-pronator. Motion control training shoes are required if you’re a severe over-pronator (let’s hope that’s not you!).

After determining what type of pronator you are and you know what kind of running you’ll be doing, it’s time to start trying on shoes. Put both shoes on, lace them up, and take a couple of steps with a running motion. If they feel right and you’ve already determined they’re the right shoe for your circumstances, your search is over.


The proper type of shoe is paramount in any track and field endeavor. Always search for the shoe that’s best for your foot. It must offer protection for your foot based on the type of running you do. And naturally, make sure the shoe fits properly and allows you to compete all day in comfort.

Running Tips: Women’s Running Shoes

Running is a great choice for women looking for an exercise program. Women make greater gains in their times and conditioning compared with men, and it’s a great way to lose weight after a pregnancy. Running requires little money and is flexible (you don’t have to schedule a class). But there are some things women need to be aware of when running, for it’s a rigorous sport and can take its toll over time if done carelessly.

Several reports indicate that knee injuries in particular are more common among women than among men. The reasons given have to do with leg alignment, muscle strength, and joint laxity or looseness. In general, women have wider pelvises than men do, which makes for a corresponding larger quadriceps angle, meaning the hips come down to the knees at a sharper angle. This puts more stress on the kness, making them more vulnerable to injury. Sports physicians often refer to a condition common in women called “”the terrible triad”", in which a wider pelvis causes legs to be more knock-kneed.

The name stability creates some confusion as a category of shoes alongside the motion-control category because motion-control shoes are the most stable but provide a bit more cushioning than motion-control shoes do. Cushioning refers to the softness of the midsole. A softer midsole will absorb the force of impact better than a firmer midsole will; it also allows more foot motion.

Stability shoes are usually built on a semicurved last, which allows more foot motion than a straight last does. Several models, however, contain a medial post or an area of dense midsole material along the inner side of the shoe to prevent too much motion.

Cushioned shoes have the softest midsoles and provide the best shock absorption. Sounds ideal for any runner, doesn’t it? Cushioning is not for everyone, though. This is partly due to the softness of the midsole, but in addition, cushioned shoes are built on a semi-curved or curved last and most do not contain motion-control devices, allowing your foot to roll inward. Clearly, these are not the shoes for overpronators.

The shoe should have about a thumbs’ width of space more than the full size of the feet. The middle foot area should have a secure and comfortable resting place beneath it. Also, be sure to try on both shoes. On many people one foot is usually bigger than the other foot. Inside the shoe is a stiffened cup encasing the toes known as the box, or block? The place over the toe is called the vamp, the opening near the toes is called the throat of the shoe.

There’s a favorite choice for women’s running shoes over the years that is Saucony. With designs that apparently were favorable with female runners. Saucony shoes are noted to have narrow designs and defined heels. Other shoe manufacturers also have their own line of women’s running shoe, such as New Balance and Nike.

Always try them on with socks. Since you’re going to be running with socks, it is best that you try the shoes with socks before buying it. Make sure that the socks you’re wearing, though, are of the same type that you will be wearing for running. This way you would be able to feel if it is the right fit for you.

Shoes should be comfortable and of the desired size. Don’t just merely try them on. You must put them to the test. Try to take a walk with them on maybe inside the store. Do you feel comfortable in them or are you feeling pain somewhere? To get the right fit, make sure there is enough room for your toes to move. If you feel like your feet couldn’t breathe then maybe the shoes are just too tight for you. If you can’t make up your mind as to which to choose between two sizes, pick the bigger one.
